Venison & Lentil High-Protein Mix

Allergy Friendly Weight Management

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground venison
  • 1 cup green lentils, rinsed
  • 1 cup chopped kale
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1/2 tsp calcium carbonate
  • 200 IU vitamin E
  • 25 mg zinc picolinate

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Rinse lentils and place in a pot with 2.5 cups water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. In a separate skillet, brown the ground venison over medium-high heat until cooked through. Drain any excess liquid.
  3. Add cooked venison to the lentils. Stir in chopped kale and cook for 5 more minutes.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in sunflower oil, calcium carbonate, vitamin E, and zinc.
  5. Cool completely. Portion into daily servings. Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months.

💊 Required Supplements

Per daily serving: 1/2 tsp calcium carbonate, 200 IU vitamin E, 25 mg zinc picolinate. Venison is naturally low in zinc, so supplementation is important. Add 500 mg fish oil 3 times per week for essential fatty acids.

Nutritional Analysis

Approximately 400 kcal per cup. Protein ~38% DM, Fat ~8% DM, Carbohydrates ~28% DM, Fiber ~6% DM. Very low fat, suitable for weight management. Venison is naturally lean and rich in iron and B vitamins. Meets AAFCO profiles.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator overnight. Serve at room temperature. Due to the high protein content, ensure your dog has access to fresh water at all times.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Venison is a novel protein essential for dogs with food allergies. Replacing it with common proteins (chicken, beef) eliminates the hypoallergenic benefit. Lentils provide protein and fiber; replacing with grains alters the glycemic profile.
