Turkey & Quinoa Bowl
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) lean ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1 cup (170g) dry quinoa
- 2 cups (480ml) low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 cup (150g) chopped green beans
- 1 cup (130g) diced carrots
- 1/2 cup (75g) chopped spinach
- 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil
- 1 medium sweet potato (200g), peeled and cubed
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Rinse quinoa thoroughly under cold water until water runs clear to remove bitter saponins.
- Combine quinoa and chicken broth in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer covered for 15 minutes until liquid is absorbed.
- While quinoa cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and cook ground turkey, breaking apart until no pink remains, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add sweet potato cubes and carrots to the turkey, cover and cook for 10 minutes until vegetables begin to soften.
- Stir in green beans and spinach, cooking an additional 5 minutes until all vegetables are tender.
- Fold cooked quinoa into the turkey-vegetable mixture and stir until well combined.
- Remove from heat and allow to cool completely to room temperature before serving or storing.
- Divide into appropriate portions based on your dog's weight and caloric needs.

🧊 Safety & Storage
Refrigerate portions in airtight containers for up to 4 days, or freeze individual servings in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions overnight in the refrigerator, never at room temperature. Always serve at room temperature or slightly warmed. Wash hands and all surfaces thoroughly after handling raw turkey. Discard any food left uneaten after 2 hours. Consult your veterinarian before switching to homemade food and schedule follow-up weight checks every 2-4 weeks.
⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning
Do not substitute ground beef or pork for turkey as these are significantly higher in fat and calories, undermining weight management goals. Avoid replacing quinoa with white rice or pasta, which lack protein and fiber. Never use onion, garlic, or leeks as vegetable substitutes as these are toxic to dogs. Do not omit the calcium supplement as meat-heavy diets are naturally calcium-deficient. Avoid adding extra oils, butter, or seasonings. If your dog has known food allergies, verify all ingredients with your veterinarian before preparation.
