Turkey & Kale Senior Kidney Care

Joint Health Digestive Health

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • 1 cup cooked white rice (lower phosphorus than brown rice)
  • 1 cup chopped kale
  • 1/2 cup cooked egg whites only
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed oil
  • 1/2 tsp calcium carbonate
  • 1 tsp omega-3 fish oil concentrate

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cook ground turkey in a skillet over medium heat until done.
  2. Steam kale for 3 minutes until wilted. Set aside.
  3. Hard boil eggs, remove yolks, and finely chop egg whites.
  4. Combine turkey, rice, kale, and chopped egg whites in a bowl.
  5. Add flaxseed oil, calcium carbonate, and fish oil. Mix well.
  6. Cool completely. Portion into daily servings. Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months.

💊 Required Supplements

Per daily serving: 1/2 tsp calcium carbonate, 1 tsp high-EPA fish oil concentrate. Kidney care requires reduced phosphorus — use a phosphorus-free calcium source. Consider adding B-complex vitamins as they are lost through increased urination.

Nutritional Analysis

Approximately 350 kcal per cup. Protein ~22% DM, Fat ~10% DM, Carbohydrates ~42% DM, Fiber ~3% DM. Controlled phosphorus (0.4% DM) for kidney support. Reduced but adequate protein to minimize kidney workload without causing malnutrition. Added omega-3s for anti-inflammatory effects.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator. Monitor your dog's water intake and urination. This diet should be used under veterinary supervision for dogs with diagnosed kidney disease.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Kidney diets require precise phosphorus restriction. Brown rice has significantly more phosphorus than white rice. Egg yolks are very high in phosphorus — only egg whites are used here. Do not substitute protein sources without recalculating phosphorus content.
