Limited Ingredient Duck
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground duck (90% lean)
- 1 cup duck liver, finely chopped
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 cup green beans, chopped
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin (plain, not pie filling)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup water or low-sodium duck broth
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground duck thoroughly, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add the chopped duck liver to the skillet and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until cooked through.
- In a separate pot, boil the diced sweet potatoes in water until fork-tender, about 15 minutes, then drain.
- Steam the green beans until just tender, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked duck and liver to a large mixing bowl and let cool for 10 minutes.
- Add the sweet potatoes, green beans, pumpkin, olive oil, and beaten egg to the cooled meat mixture.
- Pour in the water or broth and mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly combined.
- Use a potato masher or fork to break down the sweet potatoes into smaller pieces for better digestibility.
- Divide the mixture into portions based on your dog's weight and caloric needs.
- Allow to reach room temperature before serving to your dog.

Transition to this new food gradually over 7-10 days by mixing with current food in increasing ratios.
⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning
Do not substitute duck with chicken or beef as this defeats the purpose of the limited ingredient approach for allergic dogs. Do not replace sweet potatoes with white potatoes (nightshade family may trigger reactions in sensitive dogs). Do not omit or reduce the calcium supplement—adult dogs require precise calcium-to-phosphorus ratios for bone health. Do not add onions, garlic, grapes, or xylitol as these are toxic to dogs. Do not use pumpkin pie filling instead of plain pumpkin. Consult your veterinarian before making any modifications to this recipe.
