Chicken Liver & Egg Mix
Ingredients
- 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg) chicken thighs, boneless and skinless, diced
- 1 lb (450 g) chicken liver, chopped
- 8 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) water
- 2 tablespoons salmon oil
- 1 cup (120 g) steamed and mashed pumpkin
- 2 tablespoons unflavored psyllium husk powder
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- 1 tablespoon bone meal powder
- 1 teaspoon iodized salt
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the diced chicken thighs. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes until fully cooked through.
- In the last 5 minutes of cooking the chicken, add the chopped chicken liver to the pot and cook until no longer pink inside.
- Remove the pot from heat and drain, reserving 1 cup of the cooking liquid. Allow the meat and liver to cool to room temperature.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk the 8 eggs until well combined.
- Add the salmon oil, mashed pumpkin, nutritional yeast, bone meal powder, and iodized salt to the eggs. Mix thoroughly.
- Transfer the cooled chicken and liver to a food processor and pulse until finely ground (or chop finely by hand).
- Combine the ground meat mixture with the egg and pumpkin mixture, adding reserved cooking liquid as needed to achieve a pâté-like consistency.
- Fold in the psyllium husk powder and mix well. Let the mixture rest for 10 minutes to allow the fiber to absorb moisture.
- Portion into daily servings using the serving size guide below. Refrigerate portions for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

🧊 Safety & Storage
Store refrigerated portions in airtight glass containers for a maximum of 3 days. Freeze individual portions in BPA-free containers or silicone molds for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions overnight in the refrigerator only—never microwave. Discard any food left out at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Always wash hands, surfaces, and utensils with hot soapy water after handling raw ingredients. Consult your veterinarian before introducing this recipe, especially if your cat has liver or kidney conditions.
⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning
Do not substitute chicken liver with other organ meats without adjusting quantities, as liver provides critical vitamin A and copper in precise amounts that cannot be replicated by muscle meat. Do not replace salmon oil with flaxseed oil, as cats cannot efficiently convert plant-based omega-3s (ALA) to the EPA and DHA needed for skin and coat health. Avoid substituting pumpkin with other starchy vegetables like potato or corn, as these alter the fiber profile and caloric density. Do not omit taurine—it is essential for cats and cannot be synthesized from the other ingredients in sufficient quantities.
