Chicken Liver & Egg Mix

Skin & Coat

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken liver (raw weight), finely chopped
  • 4 large whole eggs (including shells, thoroughly washed and crushed)
  • 1 lb ground chicken thigh (skin-on, boneless), cooked
  • 2 tbsp sardines in water (no salt added), mashed
  • 1 tbsp salmon oil
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (plain, no spices)
  • 1/4 cup water or low-sodium chicken broth

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil. Add the chicken liver and simmer for 10-12 minutes until fully cooked through with no pink remaining. Drain and let cool.
  2. In a separate pan, cook the ground chicken thigh over medium heat until fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F). Drain excess fat if desired, but retain some for essential fatty acids.
  3. Hard boil 3 of the 4 eggs for 9 minutes, then peel and crush the shells into a fine powder using a clean coffee grinder or mortar and pestle. Chop the hard-boiled egg whites and yolks.
  4. Reserve the 4th egg raw. Crack it into a bowl and whisk lightly.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked chicken liver, cooked ground chicken, chopped hard-boiled eggs, crushed eggshell powder, mashed sardines, and pumpkin puree.
  6. Drizzle in the salmon oil and raw egg, then add water or broth. Mix thoroughly until uniform in consistency.
  7. Portion into daily servings and store appropriately.

This recipe provides high animal-based protein essential for feline obligate carnivores, with chicken liver delivering vitamin A, iron, and B-complex vitamins critical for skin cell turnover. The eggs and salmon oil supply omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that support skin barrier function and reduce inflammatory skin conditions. The calcium-to-phosphorus ratio of 1.4:1 meets feline requirements. Taurine supplementation is critical as cats cannot synthesize this amino acid and deficiency leads to serious cardiac and retinal issues. This food is intended to be fed as part of a rotation or with a complete commercial diet—consult a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to ensure long-term nutritional adequacy.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Store in airtight glass or BPA-free plastic containers. Refrigerate portions for up to 3 days or freeze individual servings for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions in the refrigerator overnight, never at room temperature. Always use fresh, human-grade ingredients. Discard any food left out for more than 2 hours. Wash hands and all surfaces thoroughly after handling raw ingredients. Consult your veterinarian before switching to this diet, especially for cats with liver or kidney conditions.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Do NOT substitute chicken liver with beef or pork liver without adjusting portions and consulting a nutritionist—different livers have vastly different vitamin A and copper levels which can cause toxicity or deficiency. Do not replace salmon oil with flaxseed oil as cats cannot efficiently convert plant-based omega-3s. Eggshell powder must be finely ground to avoid choking hazards. Avoid adding onions, garlic, grapes, or any seasoning as these are toxic to cats. Substituting pumpkin with other vegetables may alter fiber content and digestive tolerance.
