Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken liver, cooked and chopped
  • 4 large eggs, hard-boiled and mashed
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1/2 cup steamed and mashed sweet potato
  • 2 tbsp sardines in water (no salt), mashed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup steamed and finely chopped spinach
  • 1/2 cup water or low-sodium chicken broth

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Boil or steam chicken liver until fully cooked through (internal temp 165°F), then chop into small, cat-appropriate pieces.
  2. Hard-boil the eggs, remove shells, and mash thoroughly with a fork.
  3. Cook brown rice according to package directions. Steam sweet potato until soft and mash. Steam spinach until wilted and chop finely.
  4. Drain sardines and mash with a fork, removing any large bones if desired.
  5. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Add olive oil and water/broth to achieve a moist, pâté-like consistency.

This recipe provides high-quality animal-based protein and fat appropriate for cats as obligate carnivores. Chicken liver delivers vitamin A, B vitamins, and iron for skin health. Eggs contribute biotin and fatty acids for coat shine. Sardines provide omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) that reduce skin inflammation. The 42% protein DM supports lean muscle, while moderate fat (24% DM) provides energy and essential fatty acids. Taurine supplementation is critical and must not be omitted. This recipe is intended to be nutritionally complete ONLY with the specified supplements. Have your veterinarian review this recipe and consider annual blood work to monitor your cat's nutritional status.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze individual portions for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions in the refrigerator overnight. Serve at room temperature or slightly warmed. Never leave food out for more than 30 minutes. Wash all surfaces and utensils thoroughly with hot soapy water after preparation. Always use fresh, high-quality ingredients and check for recalls on any commercial items.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Do NOT substitute chicken liver with beef liver in equal amounts — beef liver has different vitamin A levels and can cause toxicity if overfed. Do not replace sardines with tuna (mercury risk) or omit taurine (essential for cats — deficiency causes blindness and heart disease). Avoid onions, garlic, grapes, and excess carbohydrates. Do not use raw eggs due to avidin and salmonella risk. Consult your veterinarian before making any substitutions.
