Turkey & Giblets Recipe

General

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 oz chicken giblets (heart, gizzard), chopped
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp flaxseed oil
  • 1/4 tsp taurine powder
  • 1/4 tsp calcium carbonate
  • 100 IU vitamin E

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cook ground turkey in a skillet over medium heat until browned.
  2. Add chopped giblets and water. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Let cool slightly, then transfer to a food processor. Pulse to desired consistency (cats prefer smoother textures).
  4. Add flaxseed oil, taurine, calcium carbonate, and vitamin E. Blend well.
  5. Portion into daily servings. Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months.

💊 Required Supplements

Per daily serving: 1/4 tsp taurine powder, 1/4 tsp calcium carbonate, 100 IU vitamin E. Giblets provide natural sources of taurine and B vitamins. A feline multivitamin is recommended for complete long-term nutrition.

Nutritional Analysis

Approximately 190 kcal per 1/4 cup. Protein ~52% DM, Fat ~18% DM, Carbohydrates ~4% DM, Fiber ~1% DM. Giblets are rich in taurine, iron, and B vitamins. Turkey provides high-quality complete protein. Meets AAFCO cat food nutrient profiles.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator. Serve at room temperature. Cats prefer food slightly warm. Discard uneaten food after 1 hour to prevent bacterial growth.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Giblets provide concentrated taurine and B vitamins. Substituting ground turkey with other meats changes the amino acid profile. Cats require arginine — turkey is an excellent source. Taurine supplementation remains essential even with giblets included.
