Turkey & Quinoa Bowl
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (680g) ground turkey, 93% lean
- 3/4 cup (140g) uncooked quinoa
- 2 cups (240g) chopped green beans
- 1 cup (150g) diced carrots
- 1/2 cup (75g) chopped spinach
- 1/4 cup (30g) pumpkin puree (plain, unsweetened)
- 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 1 tbsp fish oil (salmon or sardine)
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Rinse quinoa thoroughly and cook in 1.5 cups water according to package directions (bring to boil, reduce heat, cover, simmer 15 minutes, fluff with fork). Set aside to cool.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground turkey, breaking into crumbles, until no pink remains and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Drain any excess fat.
- Steam or blanch green beans and carrots until fork-tender (about 8-10 minutes). Roughly mash or finely chop to improve digestibility.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked turkey, quinoa, green beans, carrots, spinach, and pumpkin puree. Mix thoroughly.
- Fold in ground flaxseed and fish oil until evenly distributed.
- Allow to cool completely to room temperature before portioning and serving.
💊 Required Supplements
Add per batch (entire recipe, ~5-6 lbs): 1,200 mg calcium carbonate (or 3 tsp ground eggshell), 500 mg zinc methionine, 200 IU vitamin E (dry powder), 100 mcg vitamin D3, 50 mg vitamin B-complex, 1/2 tsp iodized salt. Mix supplements into cooled food immediately before portioning. Alternatively, use a complete canine vitamin-mineral powder such as Balance IT Canine (16 tsp per batch) or Alnutrin (follow label for batch size) — these replace individual supplements and ensure AAFCO compliance.

🧊 Safety & Storage
Refrigerate in airtight glass or BPA-free containers for up to 5 days. Freeze individual portions in silicone molds or zip-lock bags for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in refrigerator. Never leave food at room temperature longer than 2 hours. Wash hands, surfaces, and utensils with hot soapy contact. Always consult your veterinarian before switching to homemade food and schedule bloodwork check-ups every 6 months.
⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning
Do NOT substitute ground beef for turkey — fat content will nearly triple and disrupt the caloric balance designed for weight management. Avoid replacing quinoa with rice or pasta, as this alters protein and fiber profiles. Do not add garlic, onion, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, or xylitol-containing ingredients — these are toxic to dogs. Any ingredient change requires re-calculation of supplements; contact a veterinary nutritionist before modifying.
