Salmon & Sweet Potato Feast

Skin & Coat

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless salmon fillet
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1.5 lbs), peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup green beans, trimmed and chopped
  • 1/2 cup carrots, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Place salmon on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes until internal temperature reaches 145°F. Let cool, then flake into small pieces.
  2. While salmon bakes, boil sweet potato cubes in water for 15-20 minutes until very tender. Drain and mash thoroughly, leaving some small chunks for texture.
  3. Steam green beans and carrots for 8-10 minutes until soft. Mash or puree lightly.
  4. Cook brown rice according to package directions. For easier digestion, cook in extra water to soften further.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine flaked salmon, mashed sweet potato, steamed vegetables, cooked rice, beaten eggs, and olive oil.
  6. Fold in fresh parsley and mix until evenly distributed. Allow to cool completely before portioning.
  7. Divide into individual servings based on your dog's weight. Store in airtight containers.

This recipe provides excellent omega-3 fatty acid content from salmon and fish oil for skin and coat health. The calcium-phosphorus ratio is slightly below ideal due to the vegetable content; consider adding 1/2 teaspoon bone meal or consulting your veterinarian about calcium supplementation. Zinc and vitamin E support skin barrier function and reduce inflammatory responses.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Store in refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze individual portions for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions overnight in refrigerator. Always serve at room temperature. Discard any uneaten food after 2 hours. Transition to new food gradually over 7-10 days, mixing with current food in increasing ratios.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Do not substitute salmon with raw fish due to parasite risk. Avoid replacing sweet potato with white potato (nightshade family concerns). Do not omit supplements—they are essential for complete nutrition. Never use onion, garlic, grapes, or xylitol-containing ingredients.
