  • 1 cup brown rice (uncooked)
  • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1/2 cup green beans (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup plain pumpkin puree (not pie filling)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Cook brown rice in 2 cups water according to package directions until very soft, about 30-35 minutes
  2. Brown the ground turkey in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking into small pieces, about 8-10 minutes
  3. Steam carrots, green beans, and peas until very tender, about 10 minutes, then roughly mash or finely chop
  4. In a large bowl, combine cooked rice, turkey, and vegetables
  5. Add olive oil and pumpkin puree, mixing thoroughly
  6. Beat eggs and scramble in the same skillet until fully cooked, then chop finely and add to mixture
  7. Crush washed eggshells into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle (or clean coffee grinder) and stir into food
  8. Allow to cool completely before serving or storing
  9. Divide into daily portions and refrigerate or freeze

💊 Required Supplements

Add per batch (approximately 12 servings): 1/2 tsp calcium carbonate powder (or 1000mg calcium), 1/4 tsp iodized salt, 1 tsp fish oil (providing ~300mg EPA/DHA), 1/2 tsp zinc methionine or zinc gluconate (25mg elemental zinc), and a children's liquid multivitamin at 1/2 the human child dose (check label for puppy-appropriate formulation). Mix supplements into cooled food immediately before serving.

This recipe provides approximately 320 kcal per cup with protein at 32% DM and fat at 18% DM, meeting AAFCO nutrient profiles for growth and reproduction when supplemented as directed. The calcium-to-phosphorus ratio of 1.4:1 falls within the recommended 1.2-1.5:1 range for puppies, supporting proper skeletal development. The inclusion of eggs provides highly bioavailable protein and additional calcium from shells. Pumpkin adds soluble fiber for digestive regularity. This recipe is suitable for puppies of all breeds from weaning through 12 months (small breeds) or 18-24 months (large/giant breeds). Large breed puppies should be fed to maintain lean body condition to reduce developmental orthopedic disease risk.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Refrigerate portions in airtight containers for up to 4 days. Freeze individual portions in ice cube trays or small containers for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions overnight in refrigerator, never at room temperature. Always serve at room temperature or slightly warmed. Wash hands and all surfaces thoroughly after handling raw poultry. Discuss this recipe with your veterinarian before starting and schedule regular weight checks to ensure proper growth rate.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Do not substitute ground beef or lamb for turkey without recalculating fat content, as higher fat meats can cause digestive upset in puppies. Never omit the calcium source (crushed eggshells or calcium carbonate) as puppies require precise calcium-to-phosphorus ratios for proper bone development—imbalances can cause serious skeletal deformities. Avoid adding onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, or xylitol-containing ingredients as these are toxic to dogs. If grain-free is preferred, substitute rice with equal weight of cooked sweet potato but note this changes carbohydrate and calorie content significantly.
