Puppy Growth Formula

General

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey (85% lean)
  • 1/2 cup brown rice (uncooked)
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (uncooked)
  • 1 large sweet potato, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup chopped green beans
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon iodized salt

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a medium pot, add brown rice and rolled oats, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes until tender and water is absorbed.
  2. While grains cook, brown the ground turkey in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it into crumbles, cooking until no pink remains, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Add diced sweet potato to the skillet with the turkey, pour in chicken broth, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes until sweet potato is fork-tender.
  4. Stir in chopped green beans and grated carrots, cook uncovered for 5 more minutes until vegetables are soft and liquid is mostly evaporated.
  5. Remove from heat, fold in the cooked rice and oat mixture, then stir in ground flaxseed and olive oil until evenly distributed.
  6. Sprinkle iodized salt over the mixture and stir thoroughly to combine.
  7. Allow to cool completely to room temperature before serving or storing.

This formula is designed for puppies aged 8 weeks to 12 months; consult your veterinarian before feeding and adjust portions based on breed size and body condition score.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Refrigerate in airtight containers for up to 4 days. Freeze individual portions in ice cube trays for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions overnight in the refrigerator. Never microwave food; warm gently in a water bath to room temperature. Always use fresh, high-quality ingredients and wash all produce thoroughly. Discard any uneaten food left out for more than 2 hours.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Do not substitute ground turkey with higher-fat meats like beef or lamb without recalculating fat content, as excess fat can cause digestive upset and rapid weight gain. Avoid replacing sweet potato with white potato due to different glycemic profiles. Never omit calcium supplementation, as this recipe alone does not meet puppy calcium requirements. Do not use onion, garlic, grapes, raisins, or xylitol-containing ingredients as these are toxic to dogs.
