Why Small Breeds Need Special Nutrition

Small breed dogs have faster metabolisms and smaller stomachs, so they need nutrient-dense meals. This chicken and vegetable recipe is packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals to support their energy levels and overall health.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (150g) cooked chicken breast, shredded (no bones or skin)
  • 1/2 cup (75g) cooked brown rice
  • 1/4 cup (30g) finely chopped carrots
  • 1/4 cup (30g) finely chopped green beans
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon calcium powder (optional, for bone health)

Instructions

  1. Cook the chicken breast thoroughly (boil or bake) and shred into small, bite-sized pieces.
  2. Cook brown rice according to package directions.
  3. Steam or boil carrots and green beans until soft, then chop finely.
  4. In a large bowl, combine chicken, rice, vegetables, and olive oil. Mix well.
  5. If using, sprinkle calcium powder and stir evenly.
  6. Let cool to room temperature before serving.

Feeding Guidelines

For small breeds (under 20 lbs), serve about 1/2 cup per day, divided into two meals. Adjust based on your dog's activity level and weight. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze in portions.

Note: Always consult your vet before changing your dog's diet, especially if they have health conditions.
