Why Beef and Barley?

Barley is a great source of soluble fiber, which aids digestion and helps regulate bowel movements. Lean beef provides high-quality protein for muscle maintenance. This recipe is ideal for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (150g) lean ground beef (90% lean or higher)
  • 1/2 cup (100g) cooked pearl barley
  • 1/4 cup (30g) finely chopped spinach
  • 1/4 cup (30g) grated zucchini
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder (soothes digestion)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a pan over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles. Drain excess fat.
  2. Cook barley according to package directions until tender.
  3. Steam spinach until wilted, then chop finely.
  4. Grate zucchini and gently squeeze out excess moisture.
  5. In a bowl, combine beef, barley, spinach, zucchini, coconut oil, and ginger. Mix thoroughly.
  6. Allow to cool to room temperature before serving.

Feeding Guidelines

For a medium-sized dog (30-50 lbs), serve about 1 cup per day, split into two meals. Adjust for smaller or larger breeds. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze in portions.

Tip: Introduce new foods gradually over 5-7 days to avoid digestive upset.
